It could be a matter of low FC costing the same number of miles as medium/high business class, where all of the nonUA segments necessarily must book as low. Check how you were charged for this award ticket. In fact, check that IAD-GVA is operated by an aircraft that has a separate FC cabin. Is this a UA or LX flight? I also suspect that routing to Asia through Europe increases the number of miles required, so that you've essentially taken two award tickets. This can make sense if you want stopovers in Europe or if this is how you found low award availability. The GVA-MUC segment could be part of the TATL ticket or part of the EU-Asia RT.
