I may be very lucky, but the OP does sound exceptionally unlucky.

Perhaps the OP could explain a few things?

Was this a single PNR with a BA flight ex-VIE connecting at LHR to BA long haul. Was VIE the starting point?

How long was the LHR connection?

What do UA and Austrian have to do with it? Were either part of the original itinerary or is BA trying to reroute a bag left at VIE to its destination via other carriers that fly directly?

Did BA suggest this or did the OP?

I am a little confused as to routing and why the luggage isn't being sent on BA flights.

Others may be better placed to help reunite the OP with the luggage if the details are a little clear.

Single PNR VIE-LHR-EWR

Connection was 90 minutes. Terminal 3 to Terminal 5 BUT:
The bag was not loaded onto the original flight in VIE so it never even got to LHR on the flight I was on.

BA-UA came into the picture as that was the routing BA chose for my luggage once they knew it was not on my flight. This info was given to me on the tracking website for lost luggage on BA.com Apparently BA was going to put it on the UA flight to EWR instead of its own metal. I don't know why.

The above became moot as BA told me that they never put the bag on their flight in VIE to connect with the UA flight to EWR and the bag still was in VIE and yesterday was put on the Austrian Air non stop to EWR.

I just checked and the website still says that the bag was on the July 12 VIE-LHR-EWR BA to UA connection so that's still not right. The good news is that the site has been updated to say that bag will be delivered. I will call now to see if they can give me more info as I have not received a call from the delivery company.

Why did BA not load the bag unto my flight in VIE? I have no idea and there was plenty of time.
Sounds like you were very unlucky with bag not making ex-VIE flight.

90 minutes for a T3 to T5 connection seems very short to me, but must be within MCT if on a single ticket.

I wonder whether VIE had some issue with short connection through checking via LHR.

BA's choice of UA and Austrian sounds odd to me, particularly as you would have got your bag quicker if they had stuck to BA flights, over which they would have had greater control.
