There is a big potential pay-off with a whole extra year of Gold, but.
Any flight departing on or before 8th April 2016 will count towards your current membership year. So if you are on 1490 TP's and have a 10 TP flight departing at 23:59 on 8th April 2016 it will push you to Gold.

My point was that the 'optimal' time would be to earn all 1500 TP's as early as possible in a membership year (starting from 0 TP's) to earn Gold for ~2 years. So fly 1500 TP's from 9th April onwards.

So if you get to 1500 TP's on 8th April 2016 you will be Gold until May 2017.

Also note you can ask for a 2 week membership year extension if you would reach Gold within 2 weeks after your TP reset.
