A bit OT:

This summer shut down thing really annoys me because in the next 2 weeks I can't go swimming because the swimming pool I go to is closed for holidays! This is ridiculous because it's the time when we can go swimming without having to use the weekend or after school hours!

Also certain car dealers have very limited hours too! A friend wants to sell her car and was told that the dealership will be closed for a whole month.

We tried to order a new Saab car 10 years ago and we wanted to get it in time for our first child's arrival. Guess what - the factory is closed so we won't get our car until 3 months later - and the car arrived after 3 1/2 months.

Our stove is broken and we like to buy a new one and the Smeg concept store is closed for summer holiday - they don't even bother selling!

I have seen on newspaper that Lund University Hospital's maternity ward was closed during summer a couple of years ago due to lack of staff.
