Ughhh... here we go again....

IHG Rewards is not like SPG or Hilton HHonors. Period. Those two are great with top elite status if you want great in-hotel benefits. Terrible if you want to redeem your points for free award nights. IHG Rewrds is the other way around. So you can say that IHG Rewards is more of a rewards program, while SPG and HH are more of a benefits program. People need to decide which is more important to them, and go with that.
