Yes they are, actually Qatar's check-in is at the beginning of terminal D by Door #1, AA's First Class check-in area. It would be a shorter walk going through security at D, take the Skytrain to the first stop (station 3) to the higher gates and use the cross-over behind security to get to concourse E.
