Someone in front of me at Costco inserted her AmEx while the clerk was ringing up her items and had to be told to swipe instead. I thought that was a bit amusing that people are just assuming the slots work whenever they see them now.
Didn't try NFC but that exchange indicated that the possibility of that working wasn't promising.
Also, at a restaurant that uses Shopkeep (I think) the check had a line for tip and total. Which I had to write down again when I got my receipt. Not sure what the point of having that on the check was if it wasn't used.
