This year, my wife and I have asked the crew to visit the cockpit of the BA 747 prior to departure, no problem, took a few pictures. Also, we visited the cockpit of the BA 787 prior to departure to AUS. We asked about the A380 but were denied prior to departure, we didn't have time after we arrived. We are going in August again on the A380 and will try again.
On US Airways, we have been in the A330 this year and on AA, the 777-300.
Each time, we were in Club/Business, told the FA that we are aviation enthusiast and asked if they would ask the pilots if we could approach the cockpit.
Pilots are usually so friendly and some of the times when we asked if we can take a picture in the cockpit, they have gotten up from their seats to allow us to sit for the picture.
