If a carrier delivers you late such that you misconnect, that airline is responsible for rebooking you. This would be regardless of award availability.
On the other hand, if you call UA for rebooking on a partner airline, they are only going to be able to give you available award seats.
Sorry for the poor description. I have an award booking on TG/BR with a 2 hour connection. So TG rebooks me on the next day's flight and told me they can't touch the BR flight... So in at moment the PNR had my connecting flight departing before the first flight. I then contact BR and they told me its a UA ticket and they can't change anything.
I contact UA and was told there are no available seats remaining for BR (when i did see revenue seats available) ... so they rebooked me on a less favorable routing. Called back 2-3 times and all agents say the same thing
Now I wonder... if I did fly out and arrive at the connecting airport 12 hours after the connecting flight departed, then what? lol.
