Yeah I completely disagree with that comment. They're both better than most of the "artisan" stuff the pretentious folk get all excited about these days. Both are high cream content and mostly natural ingredients, Hagen Dazs particularly (I'm looking at a HD label right now - Cream, skim milk, sugar, egg yolks, vanilla extract. That's it.)

Both Haagen Dazs (a completely fabricated focus-group engineered name, by the way) and Ben and Jerry's are excellent.
Both companies use top-quality ingredients.
Whenever I have tried various "pretentious snob" micro batch ice creams and gelatos in the big cities (Boston included), I have been sorely disappointed.
