I had heard from a couple people about the quality of the ice cream and agreed that it was very mediocre and sometimes tasteless. Earlier today on UA 881 ORD-NRT I saw the ice cream cart roll up the aisle and it looked really "yellow" instead of a normal "white/off-white." When the flight attendant came by I asked if it was sorbet, but I don't think she understood me. I just ended up taking the sundae "plain." Not sure if this change is systemwide or just ex-ORD, but I don't recall the ice cream looking so yellow when i flew out of ORD in late April.
One thing with the "yellow" ice cream is that it was much softer than the "white/off-white" version and the taste was very artificial.
I've had my fair share of UA sundaes so I could tell something was different on this go around.
I really wish UA would go to something more consistent like the HD product that was posted above. Don't get me wrong the UA sundae service is customizable and I know some people like it, but I've always thought the sundae service was rather sloppy due to the lack of proper serving equipment.
