Canada in general, is very expensive to fly to/from, specially YYZ.
Collusion, lack of competition, taxes, all make up for it....plus Canada does not have many airlines, there only like 3 of them
that's the reason why direct flight is more expensive
sigh, you are right, there's only 1 airline serving direct flight from YYZ <-> SFO, that's AC. We don't have a choice.
SFO's neighboring airports including SJC, OAK don't have any direct flight anywhere close to YYZ
