In my dozen or so bookings over the phone with BA on AS, I've never had such issues.
Did you get the India contact centre? I find they are clueless (still relatively newly trained), which is why I try to connect with the England contact centre (which is the option to 'change or cancel a booking'). Try that to fix things...
