We're adventurous eaters and prefer to sample local food. Earlier this year we went to Mezlai at Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi and loved the food, though the atmosphere was a bit...quiet/sterile (perhaps it was an "off" night). I imagine there are no shortage of recommendations throughout FT, but if anyone reading this has one, I'd welcome a suggestion either here or via PM.

I arrive on 2000 flights and leave on 0300 departures very often - it is very doable, especially in F, as you can use the fast track immigration facilities.
If you are registered for e-gate, it takes about 15 minutes from the gate to a taxi at that time, so given this is your first trip, I would say you would be out to the taxi area at around 2100.
When you exit customs, turn left and drop your carry-on at the baggage at the baggage services.
You can even make restaurants at the JBR/Marina area - doesn't have to be near the airport. You should aim to be back at the airport at around 0130 - time from drop off at the F/J area to the F lounge should be 5 minutes.
