Hi All - I became a Marriott Rewards member in Feb of 2014, and have about 300,000 points accumulated. I've been saving them up because I've been planning a big trip to Europe for a long time, and am finally leaving in 2 months.

I've never redeemed any points before, and I was just about to when a question struck me. The point redemption is for the Category of Hotel (i.e. Category 7). However, does the type of ROOM you want not come into effect? Does everyone just book the most expensive suite/room they can, and then just charge it to points, since it will be the same even for the least expensive room, or am I missing something?
