Perhaps it's because I don't feel like the hotel does anything to help me? How about ordering room service and asking them to skip the service charge so that they can help you save your wallet? Giving a free bottle of water so you can save your thirst? Maybe even to stop charging so darn much for internet and help you get work done?
Hey, making room service cheaper might save me from getting in my car and driving to a restaurant - saves on pollution from my car!

I always did laugh at the "save the environment" bit - and wondered if anyone out there actually believed that was the main reason.
