If you don't travel international Nexus is irrelevant given the fact you mentioned you are a only a domestic flyer.
Further many of us have travelled without nexus, and not only lived to see another day, but kept the government getting biometrics that would otherwise be illegal to collect in a democratic society.
AS Cow has mentioned, yes to the regional airlines.
