If everything runs as scheduled, then my inclination was also that 77 minutes should be fine. But "everything runs as scheduled" when talking about UA out of SFO feels like a real roll of the dice!
Based on the four times I have entered Canada at YVR from US and Asia, 77 minutes is plenty of time to cross the border-under normal circumstances. As a United passenger flying in the summer of 2015 from SFO, these are not normal circumstances.
It will be mildly stressful to see that inbound aircraft 2 hours late in its route according to FlightAware (and still showing ontime on the UA books) and know that a misconnect probability just skyrocketed.
