For work I'm always in Holiday Inns, which suit me just fine on the whole. Occasionally an Indigo if I'm lucky.
For personal stays, in order of preference:
Crowne Plaza - all-round decent hotels. This is the brand for me.
Hotel Indigo - generally very nice, and I like the fact that breakfast is table service - makes a welcome change from buffets.
Staybridge Suites - being a relatively new brand, it has mostly new and sparkly properties which are fitted out to a decent standard. I never do extended stay really, but I find Staybridge pretty good for use as a normal hotel.
Holiday Inn - they do the job.
Holiday Inn Express - only down the bottom because I don't stay there much, but when I do, it's always a good experience. I love how consistent HIX is - you don't expect much, but it's always clean, comfortable and a decent price - and every property I've stayed in lives up to that (whilst other IHG brands can be quite variable).
InterContinental - neither my work nor personal budgets tend to stretch to an IC - they're nice, but I'm more than happy with an Indigo or Crowne Plaza and don't really feel the extra spend will get me much more value.
I leave out Hualuxe, Even and Candlewood since I live in the UK and mostly travel within Europe, where none of these brands exist.
In the above list I'm going by where I would honestly be looking to stay on the average trip, in order of preference. If I had an unlimited budget then the ordering would obviously be significantly different.
