My experience is that in China and Hong Kong, they do not deliver duty free to the aircraft door. You have to take it with you but for US-bound flights there is a secondary security check at the gate, where they confiscate all liquid items.
Odd, I was on a CX flight earlier this year (HKG-JFK) and they delivered the whisky to the aircraft. I had to pick it up _after_ boarding gate check.
