That is correct. Whenever I go to PEK there is a security check right on the runway before you board the plane. The question they ask is whether you have any liquids. Sometimes they go through your carry-on luggage. Last trip (early June) they had me open my bag, tapped the clothes on top and asked if I had any liquids.
