Another option with AA is to fly on CX or JL to CMB, then use 4.5K BA Avios each for CMB-MLE. CMB is in the Asia 2 region, so it is cheaper than flying to MLE (which can't be done on a single award by flying through Asia 1 or 2 - have to fly through Middle East). You can get to CMB for 55K in J or 67.5K in F, while flying to MLE on Etihad or Qatar will cost you 67.5K in J or 90K in F. I'm assuming premium cabin is desired based on the babymoon aspect, which people often want to do up fancy. Also Maldives. Has to be fancy .
