I think to answer the general idea of the OPs question... yes, I think business class today is creeping more and more towards the first class of not that long ago, with first class being replaced by suites and, in extreme cases, apartments. I don't think this is inherently a bad thing and I don't think OP does either, I think "too luxurious" was just a poor choice of words for their question. From an expense perspective at some point a seat just becomes hard to justify costwise and I think that is part of why US carriers generally don't offer a true premium economy product - they rightly fear that it would cannibalize their business class sales if there was a "good enough" option available between coach and business.
