Has anyone had successful product changes from the UA Explorer card into a Freedom?

Given that it seems to be harder to get UR earning cards, I'm wondering if that may not be a bad idea if we can't get a fee waiver for the Explorer. We have not really done much spend on it, and I can't see Chase waiving the fee (although we'll certainly ask).
