I didn't ask for an upgrade. They offered to upgrade me for 90 Euros. When I asked why if space was available I was being asked to pay they mumbled about getting 10 Platinum's per day and giving the upgrade to the first one willing to pay.

Like I said this is the first time I've every had this happen. I thought the way it's supposed to work is that if a better room is available at check in they offer it to you. I've never had them try to up sell me to a better room and I didn't see anything in the T&Cs to support that this is the proper procedure.

My question for those who are knowledgeable in the way the rules are intended to work is whether or not the hotel was correct in insisting I pay for a better room given one was available at check in?
