I believe that UA reward miles are posted in batch mode (system sweeps) and mine generally post early afternoon east coast time.
I believe that reward availability is updated more in real time; i.e. increased when seats are released by UA or *A partners, and decreased when seats are booked. For example there has been previous discussions about when updated LH reward availability appears, and it is generally after midnight Frankfurt time.
Best advice is to check often as other passengers might change plans and cancel seats accordingly.
