Go to the GSM Association website's, roaming page:

Telenor is listed as 900/1800 as far as legal licensing is concerned, DOESN'T mean they have GSM1800 in use. If they do it may only be spectrum fill in urban areas.

In general:
First networks in Europe, Asia/Pac and Africa were GSM900
Secondary networks were GSM1800
In S. America and the caribbean a few GSM900 networks existed, however most are now focusing on GSM1900 (for regions that are moving from TDMA) and GSM 850. Brazil started GSM at 1800MHz, however GSM 850 likely will also come around.
In N. America, GSM 1900 is the norm for GSM networks. With Rural networks now replacing Analog/TDMA only footprints with GSM/GPRS and CDMA overlay's you will see GSM850 take off.
3G/WCDMA networks that are compatible with GSM SIM cards (e.g. Vodafone Japan, NTT DoCoMo) use 2100MHz WCDMA
