I normally book all personal travel for myself and Ms WB - using combinations of AC website, Matrix, Expertflyer etc I think I normally come out with around about the best deals. Recently I was away on a business trip and Ms WB needed to book YOW-SEA in a hurry so she called AC reservations and asked for the cheapest Flex. They quoted her an insane price, so she bought a Tango fare instead, (no upgrade, 50% miles). Two days later I arrived back and checked on line and found a better routing, in Flex, for $50 less! Called AC and they said they could change the ticket but would be $200 change fee each way, leaving us out of pocket $350 for the trip. To be honest I'm stunned. Is this normal practice? My wife and I are both SE100K, have had status for several years, fly mainly TATL in full fare J when travelling for business and try as far as possible to stay with AC - it seems strange to me they would gouge out a few hundred bucks from someone who has been a loyal customer for a while. Just wondered what others thoughts are on this.
