No need to stop by T3 if you have a BP for your VA flight and assuming any checked bags are checked through. If you don't, I'm not sure where you can get one in TBIT until except maybe at the gate before boarding.
Your BP gets you into the Star Alliance lounge, assuming eligibility. It's a pretty fantastic lounge, better than almost anything you can get into in the US on a SkyTeam or Delta ticket, except perhaps the VS Club House. Someone just came around to every seat with a cart of potstickers and beer while I was writing this.
