And to answer op's question, damage depends on how thick your file is and various other factors.

People regularly churn in this forum don't even bother worrying about couple of points. In the past I would go on a cancelling spree every few years and don't see much impact because I don't hold a balance at all so a 2% utilization is not much different than a 1% utilization.

I usual keep these older cards around even if I don't use them since it will only help by keeping them in the sock drawer.
