No you don't need to book two awards. Call in and they will help you put it together. All one award. And yes you will still get the 15% discount. Just ask nicely. Singapore agents are super nice. Also remember you can add a stopover on a round trip ticket for free in either Tokyo or Singapore. If it's only one way you can still add a stopover but it's $100.
Just be aware that the system these days now typically add LAX-SIN (F) then SIN-JNB (J) and the total will be ridiculous. Need to tell them that as per the chart it's supposed to be so and so and ask them to check one more time.

Do you have any experience on the 777-200ER V1 aircraft? That's what SQ uses for SIN-JNB. It's two-cabin, with a 1-2-1 seat arrangement in Business. The flight is 10 hours, so I'm hoping it's more like US domestic first class ...
