Paid Ticket

So my husband and I are about to purchase an international paid ticket and I am pretty sure I will have to change my inbound date. Can I do this after I fly the outbound? Will it break the PNR? I am EP and he has no status so I want us on the same PNR when we fly together (seats, irrops etc)
