At the end of the day, our perception was not that it made a big difference.
(Our experience includes YYZ-TPE a couple of years back and, earlier this year, YVR-TPE and TPE-CDG. All in business class.)
Good point. So my, and our team's datapoint.
Every person was a dude, except for one female. Mostly non mandarin speaking, of various races.
There is, no doubt, distinctly better homey/familial type service in Royal Laurel (J). In elite, it's pretty good - I'd say, AC style service, if not a bit better due to more FA's.
As far as Mandarin speaking - as you mentioned, yeah, I definitely got better service speaking Mandarin. I speak both, English a lot better for sure, my Mandarin is hit and miss, but the fact that I at least spoke Mandarin and it wasn't until we really got into conversations did the FA's realize I was trying but not perfect so it leads me to believe that FA's give preferential treatment to those speaking Mandarin.
As was my experience on the first flight, if one spoke English, then only a subset of FA's were available. They are friendly (based on what I could tell), but not "all over you" - in a nice, friendly, please tuck me in, sort of way
This isn't specific to EVA, and before some person comes on and calls them racist, this is the same thing in Montreal. If you speak French = preferential treatment. People just like conversing with people who speak their native tongue, it's a fact of life. Not defending, just saying...in case I get trolled for that airline's behavior....
