The funny thing is, I have heard Mandarin speakers saying the very opposite. Although admittedly I did not quite believe it.
The other thing, might depend upon whether male and female. Age. If in business class or not.
At the end of the day, our perception was not that it made a big difference.
(Our experience includes YYZ-TPE a couple of years back and, earlier this year, YVR-TPE and TPE-CDG. All in business class.)
