So does this mean the food will improve? Or is it simply a change in vendor?
it is simply outsourcing. Delta is selling its own flight kitchen and employees to a vendor.

quality? well that kind of depends on your views of outsourcing in-general.

If food went back to the NW standards that would be fantastic, but everyone knows that Delta is extremely cheap and always cutting more and more corners, so that is not going to happen.
uh... because Delta can't teleport food from Tokyo to those other cities?

This isn't close to being remotely correct.

generally the only time out and back catering is done is on shorter flying. (think sacks only) it does have on some random flights but for the most part international C isn't going to be out and back catered.

NRT's vendor (and Delta when it was in-house) will generally always handle NRT-ATL. ATL-NRT will be catered by the vendor (GateGourmet) in Atlanta.

In most cases (at least in the US) GateGourmet will be the vendors. In some other cases it will be a smaller vendor, even in some cases a restaurant at the airport will be the catering vendor.

so for example, ATL-TLH will probably be out and back catered. ATL-AMS will be catered by the vendor in ATL, AMS-ATL will be catered by the vendor in AMS.

If true, I guess DL will now have fresher meals traveling From Japan to the USA.
its not true. In every city you listed they have a local vendor for catering. GateGourment or LSG in pretty much all of those cities FWIW.

not sure why anyone would believe that its even logistically possible to cater all of Delta's flights all around the world by a single kitchen in Atlanta. Not only that, but it would have to be one hell of a kitchen.
