Indeed... I've also heard that DUB isn't 24h airside so it makes that option moot. However, I do have another question regarding transits in LHR. If my wife can get a visa for turkey, would it be possible to transit at LHR on the way to turkey and back to DUB via LHR? She has a valid Australian visa.
United Kingdom (GB)
Additional Information:
- There is no passport control on traffic between Great
Britain and Northern Ireland and Ireland (Rep.). British
authorities impose a strict control on passengers transiting
Great Britain and Northern Ireland to a destination within
Ireland (Rep.). Passengers travelling e.g.
Frankfurt-London-Dublin who are not holding onward or return
tickets, may be thoroughly interrogated. To avoid serious
delay, such passengers must hold return or onward tickets
beyond Ireland (Rep.) to destinations outside Great Britain
and Northern Ireland.

Since we can depart from DUB-LHR-IST-LHR-DUB-PHL would this be okay? Or Perhaps DUB-IST-DUB to avoid LHR?
