One night behind here after long time and hopefully also for long time. Signs have been changed to reflect the new brand, the reception desk relocated, and some rooms obviously renovated. For £199 per stay I was not impressed, however.

Renovation of the rooms in the zigzag dorm part of the hotel consist of only changing the superficial materials and furniture. Door locks had been changed to reliably working ones, no more swiping, swiping, and swearing. Squeaking floors squeaked just like before, "AC" blew lukewarm air and the balcony door had to be kept open to cool the room and let the noises in. No fire alarm last night, which was a positive development. Bathroom had been redone more completely and it was actually quite functional and appealing.

The diamond gift was a 187 ml bottle of red wine, a banana, and an apple. Breakfast room had been extended to the previous bar area. The offerings were adequate, but no one came to ask about coffee or tea. Service attitude/competence appeared slightly declining.

As I have written also earlier, location is just about the only asset of this venue, and sometimes the room rates (as last night compared to >£300 in rest of the Hiltons and DT:s in neighbourhood).
