I am comfortable to use an agent, but I always like to try to purchase from the airline's website directly first. God knows they love travel agents in Korea. I've actually gotten tickets 50% cheaper than a direct website price once.
A few years ago, my friend flew from HIJ to BKK on MU with a 2 day stopover in Shanghai. MU's own website wanted something like $900 for the ticket alone.
But, she found a local TA in Hiroshima, which sold her the ticket, a Shanghai hotel, and hotels in Thailand (5 nights total) for $600 all in. IIRC, they also threw in free airport transfers in Shanghai. I was impressed.
