Mt. McKinley first becomes visible on the park road at Mile 9, so any attempt to see it before that point would not be productive!

At Mile 9, it is more than 70 miles away and not as dramatic as further along on the park road.

On the other hand, one may drive a private vehicle to that initial viewpoint and a few miles beyond.
