Maybe I'll give it a shot this afternoon. Was hoping to avoid this bit!

WRT #4 the firewall software on your laptop may be blocking the outbound or inbound traffic from your notebook to the webcam.
There's no direct link between my webcam and my laptop. The webcam connects directly to my network via wifi. (Just to be clear, this isn't a computer webcam that I'm using for Skype, etc. It's a home monitoring webcam that's entirely separate from my laptop.)

Where are you when you try to test this? Are you using some sort of external connection (coffee shop, internet cafe, cellular data) or are you connected to your LAN, and expecting the traffic to exit your house via routing to the WAN, and then come back into the WAN side and get port forwarded to the LAN?

Does connecting to the local LAN IP address of the webcam work?
I can connect to the webcam via my laptop and my mobile app if I'm on the LAN and I'm using the internal IP address.

I cannot connect to the webcam if I enter the external IP address and the forwarded port via either my laptop or the mobile app. (I've tried this at both home and when I'm on other networks, including my mobile network and at friends' houses, etc.)

Port forwarding test sites confirm the ports I've tried are closed.
