I remember this primarily because the elite conversion time of the failed attempts, matched to my husband's - so after I read those posts, I decided not to push / waste a pull, but would go for the Premier TYP instead - we dont lack any AA miles even for the First Apartment if there is availability that is, but we barely have enough for the SQ suite. The failure reports help our decision to go for Premier instead of 2nd MC.
There is still a dilemma about the unrequested conversion from Visa to MC. I got one of those last Jan, before I understood the implications. Once I realized that might reset the clock, I checked the 2 Visas I still had open, and one was due to be replaced in August. So I SMed Citi to cancel it, and they said it had "already been converted", even though I hadn't gotten any notice of that. So they canceled the "already converted" Visa, and still sent me the new MC.
I haven't activated it. So there are 2 open questions:
Does a MC converted from a Visa constitute an "account opened" for the purposes of the clock? Because if you downgraded a card, that wouldn't be considered a "new account", so why should changing it from a Visa to a MC be considered an "account opened"?
If it is considered an account opened, but the card is never activated, then does it still constitute an "account opened"?
Like Happy, I still have other Citi cards to go for first, in my case a Premier. But eventually I will have an open slot on 8/65 to potentially apply for a MC. I feel that since I have never applied for a MC, I should be good to go for one. But Citi may treat it differently.
