48,000 avios plus some extra taxes/fees/charges (which is usually quite low as APD is already at the higher rate) is almost certainly a lot cheaper than booking a CW revenue fare.

WTP to CW upgrades were previously extremely good value, and for those with status the avios earned on the underlying WTP fare almost covered the avios required to upgrade. All good things come to an end.
