I am not not in a position to say whether it is management pressure to defer MELs and the consequences, or a work to rule by mx, but either way the stories day after day are not doing UA any favors. Maybe it is a just a company meltdown - mgmt cost cutting, PR screw ups, crews not accepting planes, etc, etc. Is every work group at UA at war with all the others?
My guess is it has more to do with (1) overusing the fleet, and having no spare A/C (DL keeps a few around, pmUA did as well, CO, never) (2) setting too tight of turns on A/C which cause rolling delays, and the real issue (3) cross fleeting, in which A/C don't see a maintenance base regularly, so issues build up, and A/C are used in areas where there are no replacement crew. There may also be some deferred maintenance issues that are catching up with the penny pinching "savvy" plan Jeff has implemented.
