I cant but think that DL all along knew they would throw in the towel right after the Summer Peak Season was over. No I have no proof that this was DLs plan all along but if it was lossing $$ on it now they would have walked away now and not after the summers high season
If DL were to quit the route earlier than September it is unlikely there is enough room on the SEA/NRT flight to accommodate everyone and then people would have (rightfully) complained about that.
Even if DL could accommodate everyone to NRT, and vacated the flight to AA tomorrow, AA wouldn't run it as they would have 0 time to sell tickets and sometime Q4 would STILL likely be the start date of their flight.
