It is funny how you remember things, in (I think) April 1984 I saw AA had a triple mile deal from DFW-RDU. I was working the WCT tournament where McEnroe was playing Lendl so I decided to do a quick mileage run. I sat in 3B so was first off the plane, when the door opened a band was playing and the mayor of Raleigh greeted us and shook my hand - balloons everywhere; it was of course the inaugural flight but I didn't know that. I hung around the gate area for 2 hours then got back on the plane; I assume anybody that noticed thought I was nuts; I had an unlimited AAirpass back then so it was all free.
