Oh, happened to me a few times. KLM, not BA. Got a call that my flight was cancelled and that I could chose between a flight to LCY instead of LHR with compensation equal to the cab fare from LCY to LHR (upfront, no receipts needed !) or a later flight and receive x-hundred euro compensation.

Since my mother and I were on two different PNRs we got twice the cab fare. I even protested (a bit...) but they insisted.

I was platinum at the time and practically lived on board KLM but still.
