Stayed at Hilton Garden Inn Lijiang 10 days ago. Had a wonderful stay but upon leaving they had problem getting the credit card machine to refund the deposit. I had to leave (meeting friends) but later same day they called and said they were able to return the deposit to my credit card. I have been checking online but it still showed the charge as pending.
Should I contact the hotel or credit card company or just wait and see if it disappears or changes into an actual charge?
Having looked into this as a merchant, we were told the credit process follows a different path than charges. It can take several days before it appears on the CC holder's account. The best we were able to ascertain is the credit made it past our account (of course we saw the credit reducing our balance the next day). If you are approaching your payment due date or the amount is tying up too much of your credit line, you can try calling your CC company and explain what's happening. They may suspend the charge pending the processing of the credit or they may up your credit line to give you more wiggle room.
