Just Say No : Japanese hotel employees have absolutely no expectation of tips.

Don't do it ... they are paid well and it's demeaning, insulting and otherwise just not done. And by the same token, don't go buying gifts for them … the best gift you can give them is a show of appreciation through your smile and warm words. Money and material goods are worthless in comparison to sincere regards from your heart.

Japanese hotel workers take pride in their job and all they expect in return from you, their guest, is a simple thank you. Stifle the compulsion to open
your wallet.

Their company provides the monetary thank you for their work efforts.

Not so difficult to understand. Japan is not Rome so when in Tokyo, do as the Japanese do.
