You are a platinum so you will get through to better customer service people who will be more inclined/more empowered to be helpful. If at all possible I would get them on a conference call while you call the plat line and explain the situation. In my experience Delta is pretty good about bending rules and waiving fees if it is a true emergency.
Agreed. Work with them to understand the variables (how soon can they leave, time to get to airport) and call for them.
I act as travel agent for Ms. DGilman all the time and despite her having a different last name I have no problems making changes with her confirmation # and basic knowledge (address on file, email). I'm sure people have their assistants call all the time to make changes.
For that matter, I've also make changes with @deltaassist by just using her confirmation #. It may be a security hole, but that's a different topic.
