SM upgrades leaving LHR
First world problem....

Had to book Y on return trip from LHR (got low J on the way there) because I refuse to pay 147K X2 for me and the wife.

Flight is wide open in both J and Y....so no chance of OPUP.

I thought since it is daytime and we have EC it might not be that bad....but I have NEVER flown Y on an international flight and as the date nears I am starting to dread it. Waa!

Anyone have any experience upgrading with miles at LHR on the day of departure on a Y SM ticket? Or should I just begin to mentally prepare myself for 9 hours in Y?

Incidentally, even though Y is empty EC is completely full.
